The 9th FAI World Paragliding Accuracy Championship Albania 2017 in Vlora concluded with what was probably the most dramatic finish ever encountered in this aviation discipline, where the Bulgarian pilot finally took the gold, ahead of Matjaz Sluga and Haipeng Chen. Nunnapat Phuchong was the female winner, and China won by Nations.<\/p>\n

Andrew Cowley FAI Jury President reports: \u201cBoth the individual second position and the team third place had to be decided by the requisite tie-break flights. After the penultimate day\u2019s flying being lost due excessive winds, the last day started 30 minutes earlier to ensure the ninth and last round could be easily completed. The round was arranged in reverse order with the leading competitors flying last.<\/p>\n

The individual winner of that final was Tzvetan Tzolov from Bulgaria who scored a total of only 7 centimetres, just one centimetre ahead of the second place tied between Matjaz Sluga (Slovenia) and Haipeng Chen (China). In the final tie breaker fly off, Sluga prevailed for the Silver medal position after maintaining his record of scoring no more than 3 centimetres on\u00a0 each of his competition flights.<\/p>\n

\"9thWomen at FAI Worlds<\/h4>\n

In the Women\u2019s event, with 32 competitors, the leaders achieved consistent low scores and Nunnapat Phuchong of Thailand just beat Mark\u00e9ta Tom\u00e1\u0161kov\u00e1 of the Czech Republic, 22cms to 25cms. Rika Wijayanti of Indonesia secured the third place with 46cms.<\/p>\n

Teams<\/h4>\n

In the Team competition, China overtook Serbia\u2019s initial lead and slowly pulled further ahead throughout the event, with a final total score of 52cms compared to Serbia\u2019s 65cms. More excitement transpired in the third team\u00a0 place with the Czech and Indonesian teams tying for the bronze medal\u00a0 position with a total 81cms each. Every member of each team had a tie\u00a0 break flight and, with all of their pilots scoring less than 4cms, the\u00a0 Czech\u2019s mental strength and steadfast flying skills finally overcame the Indonesians\u201d.<\/p>\n
