Gin Gliders has published a safety notice for the Genie Race 5 harness: during an internal quality inspection, the brand identified a possible manufacturing fault affecting a limited number of reserve handles on this model.

According to Gin’s official notice, the stitching that holds the plastic cord to the handle may, in some cases, come loose or detach. If this happens, the cord could slide and become caught around the retaining pin when the handle is pulled. In the worst case, this could prevent or delay the deployment of the reserve parachute.
The brand points out that the problem does not affect every Genie Race 5 handle: those in which the cord is correctly stitched and secured remain safe. Even so, Gin recommends that all owners of the harness check the condition of the stitching on their handle before their next flight and consult the technical document published with the notice, available to download from its official website, for the inspection procedure.
The Genie Race 5 is part of Gin’s range of cocoon harnesses aimed at cross-country and competition pilots. If in any doubt about the condition of the handle, the brand advises not flying with the harness and contacting an official dealer or Gin service centre before using it again.
