The Gin Explorer 3 features A new profile, raked elliptical stabilos and 59 cells for a wing designed to turn flying hours into kilometres. It is EN B certified in all five sizes.

Gin Gliders has unveiled the Explorer 3, a high-performance EN-B wing for cross-country pilots that replaces the Explorer 2 with a complete redesign: new profile, new planform, new internal structure, new stabilos and new line layout. The big news compared to its predecessors is the Wave Leading Edge, an undulating leading edge inspired by the tubercles on the fins of the humpback whale.

According to Gin, the Explorer 3 “is not an incremental update” and is aimed at experienced EN-B pilots who want to expand their XC potential, as well as pilots coming down from higher classes looking for solid performance with more comfort and accessibility.

The feature that sets the Gin Explorer 3 apart: the Wave Leading Edge

The technology, developed by Gin in its GIN LAB wind tunnel programme, reaches the Explorer series for the first time. The brand says it improves efficiency at high angles of attack, reduces sink rate at low speeds and makes the stall entry more progressive. Gin adds that it also contributes to pitch stability and spanwise solidity, which helps maintain efficiency when thermalling and composure in active air.

The Gin Explorer 3 has a more stable profile and raked stabilos

The new profile sits, according to Gin, at the stable end of the spectrum, with a more nose-down pitching moment. In practice, the brand explains, the Gin Explorer 3 holds its attitude better without relying so much on pilot input and feels calmer in turbulent air.

The stabilos take on an elliptical shape combined with raked tips. Gin states that this geometry moves the wingtip vortices away from the lifting surface and reduces induced drag, a benefit that becomes more relevant as speed increases.

As for handling, the brand points to more brake travel and greater control over turn energy, with the goal of preserving the Explorer 2’s glide and float. For accelerated flight it adds a new C-steering system, which Gin says allows pitch and heading to be corrected with precision.
