Somewhat bound to tradition, the event proposes a richly orchestrated program both in the air and on land. Sporty, cultural, comical and commercial, Coupe Icare is the place to be when it comes to free flight trade (paraglider, hang glider, paramotor, ballons, etc) and fun related activities. Four days of air shows, exhibitions, films, music, activities and all kinds of stuff; an on-going stream of events that attracts about 100.000 visitors each year. The 46th edition will pay homage to Leonardo da Vinci, 500 years after the death of the all-time genius. So, Coup Icare will dedicate a good portion of its 2019 program to the illustrious inventor of human flight who emerged during the Italian Renaissance.
The first novelties being announced are:
International Air Sports Film Festival – 37th Icares of Cinema with more projections. Registration is now open for new productions depicting air sports and adventures on the official website.
The Fabulous Story of the Coupe Icare. A work-in-progress, this publication will be presented like an exclusive preview during the 46th Coupe Icare, 200 pages of anecdotes with historical and hysterical moments illustrated with memorable images.
Icarnaval – the renowned Costumed Flight Contest for paraglider/hang glider, with a «Special da Vinci Prize» awarded to the best costumes on this year’s theme tribute. Inscriptions open on-line in late spring.
Kids Corner – Icare Mômes. For this year’s historical homage, workshops and animations for students (Friday) and families (weekend) will salute Leonardo da Vinci in a variety of ways. The CNES Spatiobus will also function.
Icare Expo. The church of Saint-Hilaire will host free shows on the theme of da Vinci.
