The weather should improve during this afternoon for a short flyable window, so the meet director Ali Gali will try to set a task at the Samoens valley, about 25 km from Morzine (where it’s raining now). The pilots are on the way there, and the briefing is scheduled for 2 pm. Maybe we’ll have some luck today…?

After the rains of yesterday, we now have a covered sky, low temperatures and forecasted rain for any moment. The 5th task has been cancelled and most of the pilots are using this time to check emails, connect to internet or go out in the area. Luckily we all have free entrance to some of the attractions here (well, probably not many will go to the swimming pool today!), and the local cuisine is a wonderful option to taste at lunch. The weather forecast for tomorrow is not much better, but conditions should improve for Saturday or Sunday. We all hope so!

Ok, the final number of pilots participating in these Europeans is 130, only 14 women, and 28 countries. There’s also an unofficial “FAI Team” formed by 4 pilots invited via wildcards by the organizers, from Australia and Korea.

We haven’t been lucky with the weather these days…
This morning looked like we could see a valid task today if the pilots launched early but the conditions were very weak until 1pm and then a big mass of clouds came from the south and covered the sky. Some clouds started to developed quickly in the mountains, so the meet director decided to cancel the task (it was going to be a 39,4 km circuit with 6 turnpoints).
Many pilots took off anyway and are now landing in Morzine, next to the HQ.
The rest of the day will be for enjoying this beautiful area where there are plenty of wonderful landscapes to discover by foot or bicycle, or just relax by the lake or the swimming pool…

The forecast for today anounces again some storms during the afternoon, so the organization plans to set a short task from Mont Chery, starting earlier than the previous days. Hopefully we’ll have a scoring task today!

Bad news from yesterday’s task: Spanish pilot Paco Renedo suffered an accident and is now recovering at hospital. Apparently, he reached the 2nd turnpoint later than the group and found very rough conditions that caused his glider to fail -and did not recover before hitting ground. We wish him a quick recovery and we hope to see him flying with us again very soon.

The forecasts for today gave risk of thunderstorms during the afternoon, after a very active night in the area of Morzine and Les Gets. The organizers decided to set a 67,6 km task with 4 turnpoints and goal in Mieussy, in order to force the pilots to go out of the more active area. The window opened at 12:30 and the start point at 13:30 with already big cumulus growing around the circuit. Cloudbase was at around 3000m with some really strong lifts at some points –Spanish pilot Ivan Iniguez registered a max of +12 m/s in his Compeo!
Most of the pilots had done about half of the task when the organizers decided to stop it due to the big storms in the area (it was raining in Les Gets). Everybody headed to the landing field in Mieussy, which is –by the way- the place were Paragliding was born more than 20 years ago.  We’ll soon post new pictures in the Album… 

After a very stormy night we have a beautiful morning here in Morzine. There are some clouds but the sun shines as usual and the pilots just left to Les Gets, where the meet director will evaluate the day for a task. There could be storms today but the most reliable way to know if it’s flyable is to be at the take-off…

The 2^nd task of the competition had to be stopped about an hour after the start point opened because of the big developments in the area of Morzine-Avoriaz. The pilots launched in tricky conditions from Mont Chery (Les Gets) where there were gusts coming from the back. Some pilots chose not to fly today. In the air, it was soon evident that the conditions were not the safest for a task –specially when the cumulus over developed and the wind blew stronger in the valley. The pilots were asked to land and no one completed the 71km task set for today, which –according to the rules- meant that the task did not score.
